週末にスーパーに行った時、この犬と出会った。
犬はずっとこの札を持っていて、すごく可愛かった。
普通にこの犬と主人は道で物乞いをしている。
札が面白く、犬も可愛いので、人々がお金を恵んでいる。
主人はスーパーで食料品をたくさん買っていたので、「金をかなり貰ったのかな」と思った。
次回道で彼らと出会ったら、１ドルをあげるつもりだ。
笑顔をくれるから、割に合う！

On the weekend I went to a supermarket and ran into this dog.
The dog was holding this sign the whole time and it was super cute.
Normally, this dog and its master are on the street asking for money.
The dog is cute and the sign is interesting, so people give them money.
At the supermarket the master bought a lot of food, so I thought “wow, they must be receiving a lot of money.”
Next time I run into them on the street I’ll give them $1.
They give me a smile, so it’s worth it!

週末にシアトル市であり「カツバーガー」というレストランに行った。
シアトルのすごく怪しい場所にあり、隣の店ではAVとナイフを売っていた。
でもそれは問題ない。
カツバーガーを食べてみたかった！
とても美味しいらしくて、狭心症で死ななかったら完璧なランチだ。

ハンバーガーはパン粉で包まれた牛肉なのでびっくりした。
豚肉とチキンも選べるけど、基本は牛肉だ。
色々なハンバーガーと惣菜があって、
「ノリ」のポテトフライとわさびマヨネーズのソースはすごく美味しかった。

じゃ、これからちょっと運動してきま〜す。

Over the weekend I went to the restaurant “Katsu Burger”
It’s in a super sketchy area of Seattle, and the neighboring shop sells adult videos and knives.
But, that’s not a problem.
I wanted to eat Katsu Burger!
I heard it was really tasty and if you don’t die of a heart attack it’s the perfect lunch.I was surprised that the hamburger was beef covered in panko.
There are pork and chicken substitutions but beef is the standard.
There are many types of hamburgers and sides;
the “Nori” french fries and wasabi mayonaise were really good.Anyways, I’m going to go work out a bit now…

ザ・オニオン（The Onion)というパロディー新聞に「キム・ジョンウンは２０１２年の世界一セクシーな男だ」という記事がある。
ザ・オニオンではこういう面白い記事は普通だ。
面白いのは中国の新聞「人民日報」だ。
時々、他の新聞はザ・オニオンは本気だと思って、ザ・オニオンの記事を本当の新聞に書かれたことのように引用する。
今回は「キム・ジョンウンは今年の世界一セクシーな男だ」という記事だったが他の例もある。
私の一番好きな間違いはイラン政府のニュースで「アメリカの農民白人はオバマよりアフマディーネジャードを好む」という記事に騙されたことだ。

悪いけど、事実の新聞よりザ・オニオンを読む。
パロディーだが、パロディーから真理を見つけることが出来ると思う。
文章も信じられないほど巧妙だ。

On “The Onion” parody newspaper, there is the article “Kim Jong Un Named The Onion’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2012.”
For the onion this kind of funny article is normal.
The interesting part, though, is the Chinese newspaper, the “People’s Daily.”
Sometimes, other newspapers think The Onion is serious and reference The Onion’s articles like they’re real.
This time it was the “Kim Jong Un Named The Onion’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2012″ article, but there are other examples as well.
My favorite mistake is when the Iranian Government News was fooled by the “Rural Whites Prefer Ahmadinejad to Obama” article.

It’s bad, but I read The Onion more than I read real newspapers.
It’s a parody, but I think you can find truth from parody.
The writing is also unbelievably ingenious.

In Japan do you have a parody newspaper?
Studying Japanese via this kind of writing seems fun!

昨日から、友達はロサンゼルスに旅行している。
犬を飼っているから、私が犬の世話をすることになった。
犬が大好きなのですごく嬉しい。
日本語で「犬の世話をする」だが、英語で「dogsitting」と言う。
英語で「子守」は「babysitting」で、犬だったら「dogsitting」になる。
他の「____sitting」単語もあるよ！
例えば： 「家」だったら、「housesitting」 「猫」だったら、「catsitting」 。
「なんでもsitting」と言ったら、アメリカは分かるけど、上の通りは一番一般的な例だ。
「monkeysitting」や「pet sitting」や「childsitting」もあり、なんでも言える。
でもなぜ何かの上に座っているでしょうか？

From yesterday, our friends have been on a trip to Los Angeles.
Because they have a dog, I get to take care of it.
I really like dogs so I’m super happy.
In Japanese, you say “犬の世話をする” but in English you say “dogsitting.”

For example, for a house you say “housesitting.” For a cat you say “catsitting.”
If you say “[something] sitting” an American will understand but the above examples are the most common.
There is “monkeysitting,” “pet sitting” and “child sitting” as well, you can say anything.
But, why are you sitting on top of something?
Baby = 赤ちゃん/子供
Sitting = 座ること
The type of person who sits on children maybe shouldn’t be doing babysitting…

英語を勉強している時に「何を勉強した方がいいのか？」という疑問をよく持つと思う。
色んな方法、教材、単語、文法、そして意見がある。
何をすればいいでしょうか？
選択肢がありすぎて、動けなくなる。
圧倒的だ！

私自身、すごく効率的な方法を見つけたと思う。
私は日本語の勉強に使っているけど、英語でも使える。
単語は一番大切だと思う。
単語をたくさん知ってるなら文法を知らなくてもコミュニケーションができる。
単語をあまり知らなかったら何も出来ない。

けど、単語はたくさんありすぎ！
信じられないほどある！

単語を全部習うのが無理なら、何をすればいいでしょうか？
どんな単語を勉強したらいいでしょうか？
その答えは回数リストだにある！

単語の使用頻度（英語で使っている回数）がわかったら、一番役に立つ単語を最初から習う。
使用頻度の高い単語から順に覚えたら、英語が早く身につく。
色んな英語の単語回数リストがあるけど、一番いいのは「小説」と「テレビ番組」から取り出したリストだと思う。
小説とテレビ番組では普通の英語を使っている。
新聞から取り出したリストもあるけど、普段の会話では使わない言葉がある。

いい単語の回数リストは下の通りだ：

１．テレビと映画の台本から
２．フィクションから
３．フィクションから（これにはカテゴリーがある）

この３つのリストで英語の単語を勉強したら、英文を読めるようになる。

最初の２０％はで、８０％のききめがある！（パレートの法則）
私も日本語のためにこういうリストを使っているけど、いいリストを見つけたら見せてくれないか？

When you’re studying English many people have the question “what should I study?”
There are many methods, resources, words, grammar and opinions.
What should you do?
There so many choices that you can’t move.
It’s overwhelming!

Personally, I think I’ve found a really efficient method.
I’m using this for Japanese, but you can use it with English as well.
Vocab words are the most important thing, I think.
If you know a lot of words, even if you don’t know any grammar you can still communicate.
If you don’t know that many words, you can’t do anything.

However, there are too many words!
An unbelievable amount!

It’s impossible to learn them all, so what should you do?
What vocab words are good to learn?
The answer is a “frequency list!”

If you have the word’s frequency (the frequency of how much a word is used in English), you can learn the most helpful words right from the beginning.
If you learn them in order, you’ll be able to understand English quickly.
There are many English word frequency lists, however, but I think the best ones are the ones that are taken from novels and television shows.
Novels and television shows use normal English.
There are frequency lists that come from newspapers, but they have many words that aren’t used in conversation.

Good word frequency lists are the following:

If you study English using these three lists you’ll be able to read English text.

昨日、「ブレーキングバッド」というテレビ番組の一番最近のエピソードを見た。
このテレビ番組は今までに５シーズンがあり、次のシーズン６は最後のシーズンだ。
こんなに面白い番組は見たことがない。

ストーリーは以下の通りだ：
ウォルトさんは高校の先生で肺ガンになっていることが分かる。
死にそうだ。
死ぬ前に家族にお金をあげたい。
そのためにメタンフェタミンを作り始めた。
これから色々なことが起りますが、ネタバレしないようにここで止める。

けど、すごくいい番組だ。
日本で見られるかどうかわからないが、出来れば見てみてください。
英語を勉強したかったら、英語のサブタイトルを使ってみたらどう？
tvsubtitles.netとかでサブタイトルをダウンロードできて、見ながら聞いてる英語を読めます。

“To break bad” の意味は「したいことをする」ですが、普通は良くないことだ。
この番組で、ウォルトさんは “Breaking Bad” しています。

Yesterday I watched the latest episode of the show “Breaking Bad.”
This TV show currently has 5 seasons and the next season is the last season.
I’ve never seen a TV show as interesting as this.

The story is as follows:
Walter is a high school teacher, you find out he has cancer.
It looks like he’s going to die.
Before he dies, he wants to give money to his family.
To do that, he begins making methamphetamine.
From here all kinds of things happen, but I’m going to stop so I don’t say any spoilers.

However, it’s a really great show.
I don’t know if you can watch it in Japan, but if you can please watch it.
If you want to study English, why not use English subtitles?
With things like tvsubtitles.net you can download subtitles and while you watch you can read the English you’re hearing.
I think this is a good way to study!

Before we finish, let’s learn some English slang!
“Breaking bad” comes from the phrase “to break bad.”
“To break bad”‘s meaning is “to do what you want,” though it usually isn’t a good thing.
In this TV show, Walt is “breaking bad.”
If it already seems like you’re going to die, death isn’t all that scary, yeah?

Do they have “Breaking Bad” in Japan?
Warning: If you start this TV show it’s difficult to stop.

It’s been a long time since I’ve written something.
Next year february I’ll be going to Japan.
We’ll be going to shoot a travel show.
We will visit various “strange” places in Japan.
However, that’s only three months away!
If I don’t study my Japanese it will be a problem.
So in order to level up my bad Japanese
I’ve restarted this blog.
I will repost up old articles.
I will also write new articles.
Also, from now on the articles will have both English and Japanese.
